Foam City (rub-a-dub) Dub

Sony\'s latest television spot

Sony has been on a roll with some great TV ads. The latest “Foam City” is due out May 1st and features a tidal wave of bubble bath foam flooding the streets of Miami. 200 locals were given cameras to shoot with during the whole foam escapade and I assume we will be seeing more of these images/videos after the first.

Here’s what will be airing

I think you will agree the ad has a dreamy quality to it and much like the infamous bouncing ball ad you wanted to be there to experience it. The major problem I have with this new ad is the lack of driving force behind the music. Unlike Jose Gonzalez’s “heartbeats” (some know as simply the “Bravia song”) Foam City lacks anything to grab onto and remember. Warren Ellis is a great composer but If I ever hear this song I will never link it to Sony cameras.

I decided to download the quicktime video from Sony and replace the music for kicks. I used the first song that came to mind (Small Sails - Farewell Weird Owl) and while I don’t think it’s a perfect fit I do enjoy the shift in feeling.

What’s your opinon on the music in Foam City? Have better song in mind? Download this quicktime file (zipped) and post your dub. I’d love to see them.

I also made this one but it would really only work if the video was slowed down, which I couldn’t figure out how to do..
