Lucy’s Flickr page is packed full of vintage (and usually hilarious) found images. The hardest part of this week’s feature was choosing only a few photographs to show you guys.
Where do you find all of these vintage photographs?
I find them from various sources. I’ve always been a bit of a collector so I’m forever going into antique/junk/thrift stores, garage and yard sales, etc. I also find them on the internet and am sometimes given them. Everyone in my family hates having their photo taken and my parents aren’t big on sentimentality, so unfortunately none of my photos are from private albums. I wish they were though. That would be so messed up.
And what attracts you to them?
I guess the banality and absurdness of them. The nostalgia. Seeing the dynamics in other people’s families is pretty fascinating, as is trying to guess the story behind the photo or what’s going on in it.
A lot of photo collectors focus on the historical importance, the age or the composition of photos but I’m not very interested in anything that is too old (1930s or older) or too professional. The more real the better. The fact that they are vintage but only just adds a surreal quality to them, I think.
